Will Buccaneers Ownership Pay Baker Mayfield?

Will the Buccaneers give quarterback Baker Mayfield a new contract this offseason? That’s biggest question for 2026 until it either happens or doesn’t when it comes to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ future. Quarterback Baker Mayfield enters the final year of his contract after the team missed the playoffs for the first time since 2019. Buccaneers owner Joel Glazer says he wants to reward Mayfield for more quality play, but the timing is the question. Glazer said paying a quality quarterback such as Mayfield is a priority, when the owner  spoke with media  at the NFL owners’ meetings this month. Glazer also praised Mayfield for his success in his first three seasons with the team. Mayfield cracked 4,000 yards in both of his first two seasons, but his production dipped last year amid injuries to former star wide receiver Mike Evans and current star wideout Chris Godwin. If Mayfield’s play looks more like that of 2025, a big contract extension could be in question. That said, Glazer didn’t tip his cap either direction. “ Obviously the quarterback is the highest paid position on the team, rightfully so,Glazer told reporters. “That means that it’s going good, so if the quarterback’s making top money, then your team is probably doing well and the quarterback’s performing well. That’s obviously a key component to success.
