Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones thought he lost out on Maxx Crosby when it was learned that the Las Vegas Raiders had agreed to trade the star pass-rusher to the Baltimore Ravens for two first-round draft picks.
However, the Ravens controversially backed out of the deal after Crosby reportedly did not pass his physical for reasons related to the meniscus repair he needed earlier this offseason. Thus, some understandably have wondered if Jones would take another swing at landing Crosby.
While speaking with reporters on Thursday, Jones left the door at least slightly open regarding future conversations with the Raiders about Crosby's status.
"We’re pretty far down the road relative to what our plans are," Jones explained, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. "So while I don’t anticipate it, I don’t want to rule anything out."
Jones reportedly was willing to give Vegas the 12th overall pick in this year's draft, a future second-rounder and a veteran player for Crosby. However, it was revealed shortly after the Raiders-Ravens trade fell through that Dallas had "moved on."
The Cowboys have since added former Green Bay Packers pass-rusher Rashan Gary to their roster. Meanwhile, the Raiders are reportedly telling interested teams that Crosby "won’t be traded."
Crosby recently indicated via a social-media post that he is willing to run it back with the franchise that drafted him in 2019, even though he previously requested a trade.
Jones made it known earlier this winter that he wanted to improve a defense that routinely let the Dallas offense down this past season. On Thursday, he insisted he feels "very good about" what the Cowboys have accomplished since the 2025 campaign wrapped up.
"We have nowhere but up to go on defense," Jones added. "That’s not anyone’s fault at all. But we’re going to almost assuredly be much better. And I’m betting on us improving on offense. That ought to get us with a better feeling when we get into December."
If the Raiders are serious about holding onto Crosby, Jones may have to look elsewhere for help at that particular position.
