Unlike many other free agent receivers, Tyreek Hill is not expected to sign a new deal any time soon. A lengthy recovery process is still ongoing, and he recently confirmed there is a long way to go.
“So it’s about 10 months after doing two surgeries,” Hill said in a video posted to his YouTube page. “My left leg is the one that I injured. I have no power in my left leg, so I’m trying to regain all the power back in my left leg. But it’s one day at a time.”
A knee injury which included multiple ligament tears brought Hill’s 2025 campaign to an abrupt end in September. It proved to be the final chapter of his Dolphins tenure as well, with Miami proceeding with a release this spring. Hill’s availability for the 2026 season has been a question mark throughout the offseason, and teams remain uncertain if he will be able to suit up in the fall.
Hill declined to get into specifics regarding how far along he is in his recovery process. He added his timeline is “looking real good right now,” although the previous comment about his left leg is obviously a concerning one. Explosiveness has long been a central aspect of the eight-time Pro Bowler’s skillset, and at the age of 32 his ability to remain among the league’s fastest players will be key to his career continuing past 2026.
While retirement was floated as a possibility in the aftermath of the injury, Hill later said he plans on resuming his career upon returning to 100%. The five-time All-Pro is in line to remain a free agent for an extended period as his recovery continues. A short-term deal carrying limited financial risk can be expected whenever a return to the NFL takes place, although expectations could be relatively high given the productive nature of his three healthy Dolphins campaigns.
Off-field matters will also, of course, be a consideration for Hill’s suitors when he is back to full strength. It is still unclear when that point will arrive, but considerable progress will still need to be made before a return becomes imminent.
