Xavier Worthy Announces News After NFL Season

Xavier Worthy’s numbers took a dip in his second season with the Kansas City Chiefs. After registering 59 catches for 638 yards and six touchdowns in 17 games as a rookie, the 22-year-old wide receiver’s production rate decreased in 2025.

Worthy logged 42 receptions for 532 yards and just one touchdown this past season. Injuries got in the way of Worthy’s second season, with the former first-round pick making just 14 appearances for the Chiefs throughout the campaign.

On Wednesday, Worthy took to social media to make an announcement. He revealed that he underwent surgery and that the procedure was successful.

Worthy suffered an injury early in the Chiefs’ season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1. He ran into teammate Travis Kelce in the first quarter of the game, resulting in a dislocated right shoulder for the former Texas Longhorns star.

Worthy was sidelined for Weeks 2 and 3. He returned to action in Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens. Worthy, however, sat out again in the Chiefs’ final game of the season. He was sidelined for the Week 18 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders due to illness.

On Wednesday, Worthy announced that he underwent surgery. He shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed wth his arm in a sling.

Worthy also posted an update on X.

"Successful surgery Coming for it all next year let’s work road to recovery ⛓️" he wrote.

When Worthy injured his shoulder in Week 1, he opted not to undergo surgery. He rehabbed the injury and returned after missing two games.

The details of Worthy’s surgery have not been disclosed.  The timetable for his return also remains unclear, but his message here indicates that he is determined to be ready for the start of the 2026 season. .

The Chiefs finished their season with a 6-11 record, losing their last six games. They missed the NFL playoffs for the first time since 2014.
