Zach Tom is Green Bay Packers ‘Best Kept Secret’

The Green Bay Packers roster is loaded with young talent. Some players are better known than others and have yet to get their flowers. One player who would fall into that category is offensive lineman Zach Tom.

A fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Wake Forest, Zach Tom has settled into the right tackle position for the Packers. But, only heading into Year 3 of his career, the former Demon Deacon has already taken snaps at all five positions across the offensive line.

Versatility is one of the things that Green Bay looks for when evaluating potential offensive line targets. Almost everyone they have on their roster can play more than one position in the trenches.

In the opinion of Matt Holder of Bleacher Report, Zach Tom is the best-kept secret on the Packers roster. It would be hard to argue against that, as some Packers insiders believe that he has gold jacket potential if he moves positions.

“While he’s only been in the league for two years, Tom has already taken snaps at all five offensive line spots during his career.

The 2022 fourth-round pick primarily played right tackle last year and fared well with PFF grades in the 70s across the board (overall, pass and run blocking).

This year, he will likely solve the Packers’ center problem as ESPN’s Rob Demovsky told the Wilde & Tausch podcast that the club believes Tom is a “potential Hall of Fame center.””

There have been some rumors that Matt LaFleur is considering a positional change for Tom. Given the struggles of Josh Myers at center, the Packers could look to move Tom into the interior. That would open up a tackle spot for first-round pick Jordan Morgan as well.

Morgan has been taking snaps thus far at left tackle, where he played with Arizona. But he will compete for that spot with Rasheed Walker, who took over for David Bakhtiari last season.

The Packers are going to play their five best offensive lineman; the alignment of those five however is up in the air. Zach Tom is guaranteed to be in the lineup, but it may not be at the right tackle spot we saw him at in 2023.
