Zach Wilson Makes Bizarre Decision With The Dolphins

Zach Wilson is set to play for his third NFL team this season, and he's looking to find a permanent home after a rocky start to his career. Wilson was taken No. 2 overall by the New York Jets back in 2021.

Wilson struggled in three seasons, and was initially set to learn from Aaron Rodgers as the veteran joined the team. Rodgers would suffer a season-ending injury less than five plays into his Jets tenure, forcing Wilson back into the starting role.

The Jets parted ways with Wilson last season, sending him to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick. Wilson signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, and on Wednesday he made an interesting uniform decision.

Wilson is set to wear No. 0 with the Dolphins , making him just the second quarterback to do so. Marcus Mariota became the first last season, as the former Heisman trophy winner chose it last year for the Washington Commanders.

"Zero is something for me that's just a reminder," Mariota said last year, explaining why he chose the number.

"I'm in year 10. People don't think I can do it anymore. It's just kind of a reminder everyday of 'nobody really gives you a chance.' And it's cool to be able to remind yourself."

Wilson will get the chance to remind himself and the rest of the NFL what he can do with the Miami Dolphins this season. The backup quarterback job in Miami has proven to be valuable over the last few seasons with the injuries suffered by Tua Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa has missed several games in multiple seasons now, and he was even forced to miss a playoff game after a late-season concussion. Wilson hasn't been the most prolific quarterback since joining the NFL, but he has years of starting experience.

Quarterbacks have been able to find new wrinkles in their careers after reaching new destinations, including former Jets quarterbacks like Geno Smith and Sam Darnold. We'll see if Wilson - now wearing No. 0 - has what it takes to be the latest success story to emerge after starting off in New York.
