2026/27 Calgary Flames Player Preview: Morgan Frost

For most of the 2025/26 season, Morgan Frost was struggling to play a consistent role, with both Nazem Kadri and Mikael Backlund ahead of him getting the opportunities, meaning that his offensive potential was being stifled game after game.

However, when Kadri was traded, Frost and his production finally started to matchup with the offensive flair that we've seen out of him, with the 27-year-old posting 9 goals in just 21 games after taking over the 1C role, leading him to the first 20-goal campaign of his career with 22. Not only that, but as the Flames 1C, he found the perfect linemates in Matvei Gridin and Matt Coronato, as they not only brought the best out of Frost, but he did the same for them, with the talented centre ending the year with 43 points, the second highest mark of his career.

With the Flames not adding an elite level centre in the 2026 off-season, heading into the new season, Frost will not only be the Flames top line centre, but he'll play a key role on the power play, putting him in the perfect spot to post career high offensive numbers across the board.

Consistency has been the issue for Frost in his NHL career to date, so while he'll need to clean that up, given the freedom that he'll get playing on the Flames top-line, prioritizing consistent offensive production is the goal for him in 2026/27.

Obviously, with the trade rumours likely to follow him around until he either gets traded or extends in Calgary, but if he can continue on with what we saw from Frost in the 1C role following the trade deadline, this is a player that could put together a career year across the board for the Flames.
