Abbotsford Canucks sign Nick Poisson to one-year AHL deal

Poisson, a Vancouver native, was recently invited to the Vancouver Canucks’ Prospect Showcase in Washington, USA, where he stood out as an undrafted invite. Skating primarily alongside fellow invitees, he scored a goal and recorded two assists across the pair of games, standing out with his work ethic and skill.

His efforts earned him an invitation to Abbotsford, where he participated in the team’s training camp before locking in a deal with the team.

Johnson also announced in the press release that Poisson has been loaned to Abbotsford’s ECHL affiliate, the Kalamazoo Wings. The Wings open their 2025-26 season against the Fort Wayne Comets on October 18th.

Now 24, Poisson spent his last five seasons playing for Providence College (NCAA), where he served as an assistant and eventually captain over his final two years. Across 170 games – all with Providence – the 5-foot-11, 190-pound forward contributed 109 points (42 goals, 67 assists), 94 penalty minutes and a plus-29 rating.

Before crossing the border, the BC native spent two seasons (2018-2020) with the Prince George Spruce Kings (BCHL), where he captured a Fred Page Cup as league champions in 2019. He notched nine points (four goals, five assists) during that 17-game run. He contributed 77 points (35 goals, 42 assists) through 107 regular-season gams in the BCHL.

The Abbotsford Canucks are in Henderson, Nevada, this weekend, as they open their season with a double-header against the Silver Knights. The team’s 2025-26 home opener will take place on Friday, October 24th, as the team will raise their 2024-25 Calder Cup banner at the Abbotsford Centre.
