The Vancouver Canucks’ top farm team is gearing up for the upcoming season.
On Monday, the Canucks’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks, released the schedule for their 2025 training camp, as well as announced an intrasquad scrimmage for next month.
This year’s training camp will last three days, starting on Wednesday, Oct. 1, and continuing through Friday, Oct. 3. The skates, which will be held at the Abbotsford Centre, are open to the public.
Training camp will conclude with the annual Green & White Game on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Chilliwack Coliseum, the home of the British Columbia Hockey League’s Chilliwack Chiefs. Admission to the game is free to the public, with in-game entertainment, photos with the Calder Cup, and a post-game autograph session.
The Abby Canucks are looking to defend the franchise’s first championship, just a few months removed from beating the Charlotte Checkers to claim the Calder Cup. Head coach Manny Malhotra’s team will look a little bit different, with playoff MVP goaltender Arturs Silovs having been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in July.
Yet, the team is expected to still be a tough team to beat with a number of prospects expected to play for the team this year, alongside several veterans who played key roles in helping them win a championship.
There are a few players that might be in Abbotsford, but are also on the fringe of cracking the big club’s roster. Linus Karlsson, Aatu Räty, Max Sasson, and Arshdeep Bains all played big roles for Abbotsford last season and are vying for NHL jobs. In forwards Joseph LaBate and Mackenzie MacEachern, Abbotsford did add some veterans to their lineup, which should help to offset the loss of players like Sammy Blais over the offseason.
The AHL Canucks open up the 2025-26 season on the road with a pair of games against the Henderson Silver Knights, the Vegas Golden Knights’ primary affiliate, on Oct. 10 and 11. Abbotsford will play their first four games on the road, also visiting the Montreal Canadiens’ AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, for a pair of games. The Canucks’ home opener is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24, against the Ontario Reign, the Los Angeles Kings’ top farm club.
