Adam Benak Commits To Western Michigan University

The Western Michigan University Broncos are adding some more firepower for the 2026-27 season. According to an announcement, the Broncos have officially received a commitment from forward Adam Benák. Back in March, Benák indicated that he would join the Broncos for his collegiate career.

Benák, 19, was drafted 102nd overall (fourth round) by the Minnesota Wild in the 2025 NHL Draft. The Plzen, Czechia, native was playing for the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms at the time, scoring 17 goals and 59 points in 56 games with a +1 rating. It was his first season in the North American amateur circuit after playing in Czechia.

Last season, the former fourth-round pick took another developmental step forward, this time with the OHL’s Brantford Bulldogs. Benák finished the 2025-26 campaign with 28 goals and 77 points in 48 games with a +22 rating. In the postseason, he registered three goals and 11 points in 15 contests. Unfortunately, Benák and the Bulldogs were eliminated by the Barrie Colts in the Eastern Conference Final of the OHL tournament.

The OHL wasn’t the only place that Benák thrived last year. Playing at the U20 IIHF World Junior Championships, Benák tallied one goal and eight points in seven games, helping Team Czechia reach the Gold Medal game. Canada would ultimately defeat Czechia, but a Silver Medal was considered a success for the most part.

Now, Benák will take on another challenge, this time in the NCAA. After winning the NCHC Tournament and National Championship in the 2024-25 season, the Broncos took a slight step backward last season, losing the NCHC Final and getting knocked out of the National Tournament by the University of Denver. Although he won’t join any other Wild prospects, Benák will play next to at least six other players who have already been drafted in Kalamazoo.
