The Providence Bruins hit the road north of the border as they faced the Toronto Marlies tonight. The Bruins are coming off a 1-0 shutout loss to the Penguins on Saturday. All three Providence losses have come by shutout. The Marlies are coming off a weekend sweep of the Wild, outscoring them 9-3 in the two games. Michael DiPietro got the start in goal for the Bruins, bringing in a 7-2-0 record, a 1.89 goals-against average, and a .938 save percentage. Artur Akhtyamov got the start for the Marlies. He entered the game 6-3-0 with a 2.56 goals-against average, and a .914 save percentage.

Providence Bruins vs. Toronto Marlies  

First Period 

The Marlies started the period off with six shots on goal before Providence recorded one. The Bruins made their first shot on goal count as Fabian Lysell scored his seventh of the season. The Bruins had the first two power-play chances, and they would score on the second chance. Providence captain Patrick Brown got the power-play goal; it was his eighth goal of the year. The Marlies had their own power-play chance but they couldn’t score. Providence also had another opportunity in the man advantage but they couldn’t score. Toronto outshot Providence 14-6 in the period. 

Second Period 

Both teams had power-play chances in the middle period but neither team could score. With just over three minutes left in the period, Lysell scored his second of the game to make it 3-0 Providence. Toronto once again outshot Providence in the period recording 12 shots with the Bruins having 11.

Third Period 

In the final period, the Marlies got on the board as Logan Shaw scored his fifth goal of the season to make it 3-1. It was a two-goal game for about 5.5 minutes as Georgii Merkulov scored for Providence to make it 4-1. It was Merkulov’s sixth of the year. The Marlies had two power-play chances early in the period but could not score. The Bruins add a power-play goal with just over four minutes left in the game. Dans Locmelis scored his sixth of the season. Toronto outshot Providence again this time 10-9.

Wrap Up

DiPietro stopped 35 of the 36 shots he faced in the win leading to him being the number one star of the game. Akhtyamov stopped 21 of the 26 shots he faced in the loss. Christian Wolanin was the second star for the Bruins as he had four assists on the five Providence goals and Lysell was the third star with two goals

Next Up

The Bruins return to the ice this weekend with a two-game series against the Belleville Senators with the first game Saturday at 7:00 PM EST, and the second game is at 3:00 PM EST. Both games will be played on the road. The Marlies play two against the Charlotte Checkers this weekend. Both games will be at 4:00 PM EST on Friday and Saturday; it’ll also be on the road for Toronto.
