Capitals sign free-agent forward Dylan Strome to one-year, $3.5M deal

On Thursday, the Washington Capitals announced the signing of former Chicago Blackhawks forward Dylan Strome to a one-year, $3.5 million contract.

Strome played 69 games last season, finishing fourth on the Blackhawks in points with 48 (22 goals, 26 assists).

The 25-year-old had been with the Blackhawks for the past four seasons. Over 225 games with Chicago, Strome posted 154 points (60 goals, 94 assists). He played in nine Stanley Cup Playoff games in 2020, tallying two goals and an assist.

The Blackhawks failed to make Strome a qualifying offer, as was reported by TSN's Bob McKenzie last week, making him a free agent when the market opened on July 13.

Originally drafted by the Arizona Coyotes with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 NHL draft, Strome spent parts of three seasons with the Coyotes. Strome recorded 16 points (7 goals, 9 assists) in 48 games with Arizona. In 2018, the Coyotes traded Strome and Brendan Perlini to Chicago for Nick Schmaltz.

In six NHL seasons with the Coyotes and Blackhawks, Strome had 170 points (67 goals, 103 assists) over 273 career games.

Strome's older brother, Ryan Strome, signed a five-year, $25 million free-agent contract with the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.
