NHL analyst Mike Milbury apologizes for insensitive comments made about women during NBC broadcast
Mike Milbury probably shouldn't have his job as an NHL analyst after the insulting, insensitive comments he made about women during an NBC broadcast on Thursday night.
In a conversation about the benefits of the NHL's bubble format with John Forslund during the New York Islanders-Washington Capitals game, Milbury insisted women were a distraction for the players.
"Not even any woman here to disrupt your concentration," Milbury said.
The NHL released a statement Friday condemning Milbury's words, saying they didn't reflect the league's "value and commitment to making our game more inclusive and welcoming to all."
Milbury also apologized for his comments, though people are still calling for NBC Sports to fire him as he has a history of making insensitive remarks on the air.
In 2011, Milbury referred to Vancouver Canucks players Daniel and Henrik Sedin as "Thelma and Louise." Again in 2012, he said Penguins coach Dan Bylsma should have "taken off his skirt and gone over there" during an in-game scrap.
It doesn't appear that Milbury will be fired by the network, though, as in their statement, NBC said they were addressing the issue with the former Boston Bruin.
