Adler Mannheim has announced that forward Tyler Ennis has terminated his contract with the team and has decided to retire from professional hockey. Drafted 26th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2008 NHL Draft, Ennis went on to play eight seasons with the Sabres. In his 419 games in Buffalo, he tallied 236 points.
Ennis bounced around the NHL for five more seasons before heading to Europe to extend his professional career. Last season, he joined Swiss club SC Bern in the National League and had 33 points in 37 games.
The news comes the same day that it was announced former teammate Cody Hodgson is attempting a comeback. Hodgson signed a player try-out deal with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals.

Jets Star Could Eye Winnipeg Exit
The Winnipeg Jets were the best team in the NHL this past season, at least during the regular season. But once the playoffs came around, the Jets faltered and were knocked out in the second round by the Dallas Stars. Winnipeg has a strong core group in place, but this team hasn't been able to get over the hump in the postseason. The team is also dealing with some potential contract extensions around key players, leading to more questions around the roster. One of those players is veteran Kyle Connor, who has been a big piece to the puzzle for years. Connor has spent his entire career with the Jets, but there have been rumors about his future with the team. Connor will be entering the final year of his current contract, and he has discussed an extension with the Jets. However, it does seem that the veteran could look to make a move elsewhere, and there may not be a push to get something done in Winnipeg. According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the case of Connor isn't heavily trying to get something done with the Jets. Connor may prefer to enter free agency next summer to see what else is out there for him. Connor put up 41 goals and 56 assists last season, which was a career-high number of points for the star. The veteran may believe that he can get a massive offer in free agency, so being patient could be the smart move. If Connor were to leave the Jets, it could leave a big hole in the middle of the Winnipeg rotation. And if the Jets believe that he won't resign, the team may want to look into trading him before next summer, so they don't lose him for nothing. This will be one of the biggest stories around the NHL over the next year, with multiple teams keeping an eye on it all.
Nuggets Receive Huge Russell Westbrook News During NBA Offseason
It has been a busy offseason for the Denver Nuggets as they have reshaped their roster around their core of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon after being eliminated in the second round of the playoffs for the second consecutive season. Denver began their offseason by trading Michael Porter Jr. to the Brooklyn Nets for Cameron Johnson in a trade that not only landed them a three-point sharpshooter in Johnson but also helped free up cap space. With the extra cap space, the Nuggets signed Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr. in free agency and they also acquired Jonas Valanciunas from the Sacramento Kings. By making these moves, the Nuggets have been able to upgrade their bench, which was a massive issue for them last season. While the Nuggets clearly had the goal to upgrade their depth this offseason, one of their key players from last season will reportedly not be returning next season. Russell Westbrook not expected to return to Nuggets According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, Russell Westbrook is set to sign with a new team this summer in free agency as he will not be returning to Denver. “It appears that Westbrook, who spent the first 11 years of his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder, will play for his sixth franchise in seven seasons. He won't be returning to the Denver Nuggets after a roller coaster season in which Westbrook finished seventh in the Sixth Man of the Year voting,” MacMahon wrote. This is a massive report by MacMahon, but also one that is not a major surprise as it appeared as though the Nuggets were not interested in bringing back the former NBA MVP. Of course, Westbrook played a key role for the Nuggets last season both off the bench and in the starting lineup, though his minutes were cut at the end of the season after Denver fired former head coach Michael Malone and replaced him with David Adelman. With Westbrook now unlikely to return to Denver for next season, MacMahon mentioned in his report that the Sacramento Kings are viewed as the favorites to sign him, though there should be other teams that also show interest in adding the veteran guard to their roster next season.
Dolphins humiliated by Lions at joint practice
Joint practices have revealed some problems for the Miami Dolphins with a few weeks to go before the regular season. Tua Tagovailoa started against the Chicago Bears in Sunday's preseason game, wanting to show improvement after having a bad showing during the Dolphins' joint practice in Chicago on Friday. Tagovailoa did play better, going 5-of-6 passing for 27 yards and led the Dolphins to the Chicago 1-yard line before the offense was stopped on downs. A few days later, Tagovailoa and the offense had another poor performance at their joint practice with the Detroit Lions. Per Colton Pouncy of The Athletic, Miami couldn't score in the red zone against a motivated Lions defense during Wednesday's practice. "Dolphins offense just ran 16 or so plays in the red zone vs. the Lions and didn’t score until the final play (between the second units)," Pouncy posted on X. "Miami’s first-team offense didn’t score in the 7-8 plays vs. Detroit’s first-team defense. It was ugly. Lions’ D is having a day." Pouncy's observation of the Lions manhandling the Dolphins was universal among beat reporters covering the Lions and Dolphins, with The Athletic's Nick Baumgardner calling it the most "lopsided" practice he'd witnessed covering the NFL. Last week, Omar Kelly of the Miami Sun Sentinel said Miami folded when the Bears defense began to whip on the offense. The accusations of the Dolphins being a soft team are going to continue until they decide to fight back in joint practices or against opponents in the regular season. When healthy, the Lions have a fierce defense. So Detroit having the edge isn't a surprise, though not being able to score during 16 plays in the red zone is a concern. Miami doesn't appear to have found an identity, and that could spell doom for the season if it doesn't get it figured out before Week 1.
Biggest reason why Padres will top Dodgers in NL West revealed
With the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres locked in a battle for the top of the National League West, one MLB insider believes the Padres have a distinct edge that will propel them to the division title. In a "Foul Territory" interview on Tuesday, MLB insider Jim Bowden of The Athletic predicted the San Diego's bullpen could be the difference between the Padres winning the NL West and potentially making the postseason as a wild-card team. San Diego made a big move at the MLB trade deadline to strengthen its bullpen, getting Mason Miller from the Athletics. In his first five games with the Padres, the 26-year-old right-hander has struck out 12 of the 20 batters he has faced, averaging a preposterous 20.3 strikeouts per nine innings. Three of those appearances have also resulted in holds as Miller has entered the game in the seventh or eighth inning ahead of closer Robert Suarez. Suarez leads all relievers with 33 saves this season and has been especially dominant since the All-Star break, posting a 1.86 ERA over 9.2 innings. That has continued what has been an incredibly strong season overall for the Padres bullpen. Entering Tuesday's play, the Padres' 3.02 cumulative ERA from their relievers is the best of any MLB team. Now, however, comes one of the biggest tests of Bowden's theory that San Diego's bullpen can be a difference-maker in the division. With the Dodgers holding a 1.0-game lead over the Padres in the division heading into Tuesday's play, many are already looking ahead to the next two weekends as games that will decide which team could earn not only the NL West title but also a potential first-round postseason bye. On Friday, the Padres visit Chavez Ravine for three games. On the following Friday (Aug. 22), the Dodgers invade Petco Park for a three-game set. Those six games are the last regular-season matchups between the two division titans and represent a chance for the Padres to avenge earlier losses to the Dodgers, who hold a 5-2 edge over San Diego in their previous encounters this season.
