The Anaheim Ducks completed a crucial bit of business and have secured a key piece of their young core by re-signing forward Mason McTavish. The Ducks have locked up one of their franchise pillars, signing centre Mason McTavish to a new multi-year deal. The 22-year-old, who was set to become a restricted free agent, is coming off a breakout campaign in 2024–25 where he cemented his place as a foundational piece of the Ducks’ rebuild.
McTavish led the team with 22 goals and added 30 assists for 52 points across 76 games. He was a consistent offensive presence, playing in all situations, including power play and penalty kill. He also posted a team-best +3 rating on a club that finished in the bottom half of the standings. McTavish ranked top three among Ducks forwards in faceoff percentage, hits, and takeaways, showing a growing maturity and well-rounded game.
Highlights of his season included a dramatic shorthanded game-winner against the Edmonton Oilers on April 7, where he intercepted a pass and beat the goaltender five-hole on a breakaway. That kind of two-way impact has become McTavish’s calling card, and the Ducks are banking on even more growth from the 2021 third overall pick.
Re-signing Mason McTavish signals Anaheim’s continued investment in its young core alongside Leo Carlsson, Cutter Gautheir, and Lukas Dotal. As general manager Pat Verbeek continues shaping the roster, McTavish projects as a top-six centre with leadership upside and Selke Trophy potential. With a new deal in place, the Ducks can focus on adding complementary talent to accelerate their return to contention.
The Ducks re-signing Mason McTavish gives Anaheim long-term stability down the middle and rewards one of their most competitive, high-character players.
