Brad Marchand Reveals He Had Unexpected Surgery

The Florida Panthers have dealt with a plethora of injuries over the last year after three consecutive trips to the Stanley Cup Final, and the wear and tear from some of those runs continues to have an effect.

While many of the injured Panthers stars are back to full health and preparing for the 2026-27 season, veteran Brad Marchand recently revealed that he had to undergo surgery on a lingering lower-body ailment he initially hoped wouldn’t require it.

Marchand said in an instagram video:

“Hey fans, Brad Marchand here. I just wanted to send you a note and first off apologize; I won’t be able to make Z’s game. Unfortunately, I had to have a surgery. I was trying to fix (the injury) without surgery, but unfortunately that wasn’t able to happen and had to kind of do it last minute, and with the time and the recovery I’m going to need, I’m not going to be able to make it and play in the game, unfortunately. It’s very disappointing and I just wanted to let you all know that I was really excited and really honored to be part of the game, but unfortunately I wont be able to make it now. I need to do the rehab and take care of that so I can get back on the ice soon,”

The 38-year-old Marchand is about to enter the second year of the six-year, $31.5 million contract extension he signed to stay with the Panthers in June 2025. He was very productive last season, tallying 54 points (27 goals, 27 assists) in just 52 games.

It’s far from ideal news for Marchand and Florida, though there hasn’t been any confirmation as to whether he’ll miss any time to start the regular season.

Nonetheless, this situation will be one to keep an eye on as we inch closer to the start of training camps around the NHL.
