Boston Bruins winger Viktor Arvidsson will miss Tuesday night’s Game 5 against the Buffalo Sabres with an upper-body injury, head coach Marco Sturm told reporters, including Heather Engel of NHL.com, in his pregame availability.
Sturm shared that Arvidsson, who skated just 3:13 worth of time on ice on Sunday in Game 4, did not end up traveling with the team to Buffalo.
Arvidsson, a veteran Swede with extensive postseason experience under his belt, scored two goals in Boston’s Game 2 win on the road, which is the extent of his offensive production in the series.
The 33-year-old is coming off his first regular season with the Bruins, one that saw him regain his offensive touch, as he racked up 25 goals and 29 assists for 54 points in 69 games played.
The two teams split the first two contests in Buffalo, as the Sabres mounted a dramatic comeback in Game 1 to take a 1-0 lead. After dominating most of the opener, the Bruins bounced right back, controlling and winning Game 2 to steal home-ice advantage.
Away from their raucous home crowd, Buffalo settled in and played a strong, mature game on the road. The Sabres, powered by a switch in goal to Alex Lyon, smothered the Bruins in a 3-1 victory in Game 3 before absolutely dominating Game 4 en route to a 6-1 victory that left the home team embarrassed and a loss away from elimination.
The series now shifts back to western New York on Tuesday night for Game 5, with Buffalo having the opportunity to eliminate Boston and advance to the second round in their first appearance in the postseason since 2011.
The winner of this series will take on the winner of the other Atlantic Division series between Tampa Bay and Montreal, which is tied 2-2 as it heads back to Florida for its own crucial Game 5 on Wednesday.
