Bruins sign Matt Poitras to one-year extension

Poitras, 22, appeared in three games with the Bruins in 2025-26, where he scored one goal. In 69 career games across three NHL seasons, he has seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points.

In 2025-26, Poitras, a Whitby, Ont., native, played 69 games with Boston’s AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins. He scored 13 goals and added 31 assists for 44 points, tied for third among Providence skaters in assists and fifth in points.

In 109 career AHL games, Poitras has 30 goals and 55 assists for 85 points.

Taken in the second round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, Poitras spent two seasons playing junior hockey with the Ontario Hockey League’s Guelph Storm. In 131 regular-season games, he scored 37 goals and 108 assists for 145 points.

In 2025-26, Boston went 45-27-10 with 100 points, where they finished fourth in the Atlantic Division, fifth in the Eastern Conference and eighth in the league.

Forward David Pastrnak finished tied for seventh in league scoring with 100 points and sixth in assists with 71. His 100 points were 32 ahead of his second-highest teammate, Morgan Geekie, who finished with 68 points and a team-leading 39 goals. Pavel Zacha was second on the club with 30 goals.

Goaltender Jeremy Swayman appeared in 55 games in 2025-26, where he posted a 31-18-4 record with .908 save percentage (SV%) and 2.71 goals against average (GAA).

The Bruins faced the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs last spring, where they were eliminated in six games.
