Buffalo Sabres Acquire Sam Carrick

The Buffalo Sabres have started to make trades as they are now tied with the Lightning for first place in the Atlantic Division. They first acquired two pieces from the Winnipeg Jets to address their blue line after Colton Parayko wouldn’t waive his no-movement clause. They then added depth up front by acquiring forward Sam Carrick from the New York Rangers. The Sabres are sending their 2026 third-round pick along with a 2026 sixth-round pick that belonged to the Blackhawks. Carrick this season in 60 games has ten points on four goals and six assists. He’s a minus-two with a 53.9 face-off percentage. Carrick is under contract for next season as well and carries a one-million AAV.

The Toronto Maple Leafs drafted Carrick 144th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He made his debut on November 1, 2014. Carrick recorded his first career point on March 21, 2015, on an assist. He scored his first career goal on March 26, 2015. In two seasons with Toronto, he appeared in 19 games recording just that lone goal and assist. He was a minus-one with a 42.4 face-off percentage. He then joined the Anaheim Ducks. In 205 games, he had 46 points 25 goals, and 21 assists. He was a -40 with a power play goal, three shorthanded goals, and a 50 percent face-off percentage.

The Ducks moved him to Edmonton where he appeared in just 16 games recording five points on two goals and three assists. He was even in plus/minus with a 63.1 face-off percentage. In the last two seasons with the Rangers, he has 30 points on ten goals and 20 assists. He’s a plus-three with a shorthanded goal, two game-winning goals, and a 54.1 face-off percentage. In ten career Stanley Cup Playoff games, he has an assist and is a minus-one. He posts a 53.3 face-off percentage.
