Canucks Begin Process For New Practice Facility

The Vancouver Canucks have announced that they’ve agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the City of Vancouver to explore the development of a new hockey facility and additional amenities. The Canucks don’t currently have a designated practice facility; they often use their home arena, Rogers Arena.

Vancouver is hoping that the new practice facility will be built in the Britannia neighborhood, close to the Britannia Ice Rink, a public facility. Additionally, if they were to build a new practice facility next to the Britannia Ice Rink, it would only be a few miles away from Rogers Arena.

Canucks Sports & Entertainment and the City of Vancouver will collaborate on a new ground lease in the area. Assuming this can be agreed to relatively quickly, the two sides will need to work out the remaining financial terms and finalize plans for what the rink and amenities will look like.

Speaking on the new MOU, Canucks co-President of Hockey Operations, Daniel Sedin, said, “A dedicated practice facility is an important step forward for our organization and our players but working with the City to have this initiative deliver new amenities for the community makes this extra special. It gives our players and staff a home designed for development and provides the environment needed to help them reach their full potential. This is another important piece in building the foundation, culture and standards that will help position the Vancouver Canucks for long-term success.”
