Canucks’ Kiefer Sherwood switches agent ahead of contract year

Kiefer Sherwood is making a big change heading into his contract year, as the Vancouver Canucks winger has switched agents, according to Rick Dhaliwal.

Sherwood is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2025-26 season as he is in the final year of a two-year contract with a $1.5 million cap hit. While the specific reason for switching agents hasn’t been mentioned, a move like this typically indicates a player felt unsatisfied with contract negotiations. For Sherwood specifically, coming off a career year in the 2024-25 season, he’d want to ensure he cashes in on this season if he signs a contract at this time.

Sherwood will be switching to Richard Evans and Judd Moldaver of Wasserman Hockey for the 2025-26 season. Evans currently has worked on 22 active contracts in the league, including Winnipeg Jets winger Kyle Connor and former Canuck Dakota Joshua, while Moldaver has worked on 14, including Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, and Nashville Predators captains Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid and Roman Josi, Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski, as well as Canucks winger Conor Garland.

Sherwood switches agents after spending the entirety of his career working with Alain Roy at Roy Sports Group Hockey, LLC. Roy has worked on 64 different active contracts in the league, like New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier, as well as current Canucks Nils Hoglander, Sawyer Mynio, Joe Labate, and Sherwood’s current deal.

Sherwood’s first season with the Canucks was an excellent one, as he managed to put up career-best numbers with 19 goals and 21 assists for 40 points in 78 games. While some of that was likely a benefit of playing alongside Elias Pettersson and Jake DeBrusk, he also spent a good portion of his season away from the duo.

Sherwood was an undrafted free agent signing by the Anaheim Ducks out of college om 2018. He spent three seasons with the Ducks before signing with the Colorado Avalanche in 2020, and spent two seasons with the Avs, including their 2022 Cup-winning season, although he only played 11 regular season games with the team and doesn’t have his name on the Cup. He then spent two seasons with the Predators before signing his current contract with the Canucks in 2024.
