With the 2025 NHL Draft and the initial free agency frenzy in the books, we now turn to previewing the 2025-26 season for the Vancouver Canucks. Instead of doing report cards, I thought I would change things up and do previews instead.
Last summer, Vancouver’s signing of winger Kiefer Sherwood drew little fanfare. After all, he was a fourth-line signing on the opening day of free agency where over 100 contracts were handed out, so, like many, he was a bit of an afterthought.
The Vancouver Canucks did not make a ton of noise on the free agent market on July 1. Instead, they decided to hand out three contract extensions to Brock Boeser, Thatcher Demko and Conor Garland.
If there’s one Vancouver Canuck that can look back at their 2024-25 season and claim it was an unqualified success, it’s Kiefer Sherwood. The feisty winger set career highs in nearly every statistic and etched his name into the NHL record books.
One of the reasons why the 2024–25 season wasn’t as bleak for Vancouver Canucks fans is because of how great Kiefer Sherwood’s stats were. This was the forward’s first season with Vancouver, having previously played for the Nashville Predators, Colorado Avalanche, and Anaheim Ducks.
And just like that, another Vancouver Canucks season has come to a close. Through all its ups and downs, the one consistent silver lining on this team has been captain Quinn Hughes.
