A reigning champion has hit the wire.
On Monday, the Vancouver Canucks placed defenseman Jett Woo on waivers, making him available to the other 31 teams in the NHL.

Woo hasn’t played at all this season, having started the 2025-26 campaign on the Canucks’ injured, non-roster list. He reportedly was recovering from an offseason surgery on his hand, an injury that he played with late last season with Vancouver’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks.
Woo battled through that pain last spring, as he and the Canucks had a memorable run during the Calder Cup Playoffs, winning the franchise’s first championship, beating the Charlotte Checkers, the Florida Panthers‘ top farm team. Woo posted a goal and five assists for six points during the playoffs.
The Winnipeg native scored two goals and 16 assists for 18 points during the regular season, down from his career-best 31 points he notched during the 2023-24 campaign. He did register a plus/minus of +14, the best of his pro career thus far.
Despite coming through the Western Hockey League as a highly-touted prospect, taken by Vancouver in the second round of the 2018 NHL Draft, Woo has been unable to crack the NHL roster, spending all of his time with the organization in the minors. He had been a solid two-way defender in the AHL, making solid contributions at both ends of the rink with Abbotsford.
In 267 regular-season games in the AHL, Woo has scored 21 goals and 62 assists for 83 points. He has six points in 30 postseason contests.
Prior to turning pro, Woo saw some success on the international stage. Along with playing for Canada at the 2017 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship, and Canada White and the 2016 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge, the former Moose Jaw Warrior won gold with Team Canada at the 2017 Hlinka Gretzky Cup (then known as the Ivan Hlinka Memorial).
