The Vancouver Canucks‘ lineup has taken a beating, and it has led to a number of changes.

On Monday, general manager Patrik Allvin announced that forwards Filip Chytil and Jonathan Lekkerimäki on injured reserve, with forward Nils Höglander going on long-term injured reserve. In correspondning moves, forward Joseph LaBate and defenseman Jimmy Schuldt have been called up from the team’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks.

Vancouver is also sending defender Victor Mancini down to Abbotsford.

Höglander has been out of comission since the preseason after undergoing lower-body surgery in late September. His placement on LTIR is retroactive to Oct. 7, the first day of the regular season. That means, the earliest return date for the Swedish winger would be on Nov. 1 against the Minnesota Wild. However, the timeline for his recovery would set him back until late November or early December.

Chytil and Lekkerimäki’s injuries are retroactive to Sunday, when both players were forced to exit the team’s game against the Washington Capitals prematurely. Late in the first period, Chytil took a vicious hit from Capitals forward Tom Wilson in the neutral zone.

Chytil, who has a history with concussions, was helped off the ice and didn’t return.

Lekkerimäki also had to leave the game after taking a hard hit in the opening period, when Capitals defenseman delivered a firm check along the boards, leaving the 21-year-old in discomfort. Vancouver still went on to win the game, 4-3.

With both players being injured on the same day, both will remain out of action for at least a week, as they’ll be eligible to return to the lineup on Tuesday, Oct. 28, when Vancouver hosts the New York Rangers.

Lekkerimäki had scored one goal in his four appearances so far this season, while Chytil had potted three goals in six games.

LaBate has two goals and one assist for three points in four games with Abbotsford this season, while Schuldt has been held pointless in four appearances.

The Canucks (4-2-0) are scheduled to visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night.
