After finishing with the worst record in hockey, the Vancouver Canucks have actively sought new management. Now, it’s about to become official, as the team is set to announce a new general manager, along with new co-presidents, according to Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal.
“Canucks press conference is at 1:00. Ryan Johnson is the new GM. Sedin twins will be co-presidents,” Dhaliwal wrote on X.
Henrik and Daniel Sedin both played their entire careers with the Canucks, from 1999 to 2018. Henrik was an elite passing center with a high hockey IQ and had excellent chemistry with his brother. Meanwhile, Daniel was an elite left winger who was known for his goal scoring, and remains one of the top goal scorers in Canucks’ history. Both are special in Canucks’ lore because they spent their entire careers there and helped the team make the Stanley Cup in 2011. Now, both Sedin twins look to build the Canucks back up.
Johnson is a former NHL player who spent 701 career games, including some time with the Canucks. He was a tough defenseman who was not a star but was a great role player. Johnson has been the Assistant General Manager for several seasons now.
Vancouver endured an awful season, finishing 25-49-8 with just 58 points. Therefore, the Canucks shook up the front office, understanding that this organization needed changes. While the Sedin brothers have no executive experience, their connection to this franchise could pay dividends as the team attempts to begin its long climb back to contention. The team expects to make it official today, and from there will prepare for the 2026 NHL Draft, as they currently have the third and 24th picks in the first round.
