Canucks should trade Brock Boeser, says analyst

With the 2026-27 NHL season weeks away, the Vancouver Canucks are committed to the rebuild, as they attempt to climb back to contention. When speaking about Brock Boeser, NHL analyst Travis Yost has stated that Vancouver should trade him to gain more assets.

“Boeser is 29, coveted around the league, and playing on a team that’s going to get worse before it gets better. Given the fact we have likely seen his best years already, does the timeline of keeping Boeser around make sense, or is he the coveted trade asset you cash in on to accelerate the quality of this rebuild?” Yost asked in his column.

Boeser had 22 goals and 48 overall points in the 2025-26 season over 75 games. Ultimately, this was similar to the 50 points he had in the previous season. It was just a year ago that Boeser signed an extension with the Canucks. However, with the team in a rebuild, they could opt to trade him.

Boeser’s best season came in the 2023-24 campaign, when he scored 40 goals and 73 points while missing just one game. Significantly, he has not come close to that mark in any season.

With teammates like Elias Petterson also linked to other teams, there is a chance the firesale in Vancouver could take full effect this season. Currently, the biggest challenge might be convincing a team to give multiple assets while also committing to the $7.25 million cap hit that comes with it. If the Canucks get off to a bad start, the rumors of a trade will intensify, and Boeser could see himself out of Vancouver.
