Speculation began to swirl on Wednesday that the Vancouver Canucks had interest in Philadelphia Flyers forward Owen Tippett. This comes as there have been plenty of discussions about teams that might be interested in Canucks veterans — with some fanbases dreaming up scenarios that see their team trade for Canucks captain Quinn Hughes. Not to mention Kiefer Sherwood, who the Flyers have reportedly checked in on.
On Thursday, Brandon J. Sommermann of The Brotherly Bullies reported that the Flyers declined a trade proposal from the Canucks involving Owen Tippett. While there are no reports on definitive details of the request, since Philadelphia said no, it’s hard to imagine that Hughes was part of those discussions. Further, the Canucks made it clear they’re not looking to trade their captain at this juncture when they sent their memo out to teams around the league a couple of weeks ago.
I’m told that Owen Tippett – VAN rumor from yesterday had some truth to it. Was told this morning that it was the Flyers that said no. Now, obviously if PHI said no, it had nothing to do with Quinn Hughes. But, thats something now to watch as that saga unfolds. #LetsGoFlyers

So while we don’t know who they were offering in return, there are plenty of reasons why the Canucks, or other teams in the NHL, would be interested in Tippett. The 26-year-old could be a solid secondary scoring asset for a team looking to either turn its fortunes around, or build up its roster for a hopefully long postseason run. He’s an easy 20-goal player, having hit the mark in each of the past three seasons. Tippett scored a career-high 28 goals and 53 points with the Flyers during the 2023-24 season, almost helping the team reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
This season, the Peterborough, Ont. native has nine goals and nine assists for 18 points, sitting third on the team in goals and points. In 373 NHL games, Tippett has posted 102 goals and 101 assists for 203 points.
