Kiefer Sherwood broke open a tie game late in the third period to lift the Vancouver Canucks to a 3-1 win over the Minnesota Wild Friday in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Sherwood scored the game-winner 16 minutes, 15 seconds into the third period to break a 1-1 tie. Teddy Blueger scored an empty-netter with 54 seconds remaining for the final margin. That broke open a game that was tied for 30-plus minutes.

Elias Pettersson scored a power-play goal 16 minutes, 14 seconds into the first period for a 1-0 lead for the Canucks (29-22-11) that held until Brock Faber knotted it up for the Wild (36-23-4) with a power-play goal 7 minutes, 12 seconds into the third period.

The Wild outshot the Canucks 38-20, but Kevin Lankinen was outstanding in net, making 37 saves on 38 shots. Filip Gustavsson had 17 saves on 19 shots for the Wild.

The Wild return to action Sunday when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 2:30 p.m. CT puck drop at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
