The 2024-25 Washington Capitals season is almost here. The organization announced important schedule information regarding their rookie camp and their first day of training camp. The Capitals Rookie Camp will be held at McMullen Hockey Arena in Annapolis, Maryland. It starts on September 13 and goes until September 16. Following that, the team will hold Caps Media Day on Thursday, September 19, at MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia. Then, a few days later, on September 22, Washington has their first preseason matchup in an afternoon showdown with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Below is more information on the rookie camp, training camp, preseason schedule, the Capitals alumni game, and the 2024-25 regular season opener.
As previously mentioned, Capitals Rookie Camp begins on September 13. It will be in Annapolis at McMullen Hockey Arena. The Capitals announced on their website that some players, including Terik Parascak, Zac Funk, Ilya Protas, Andrew Cristall, and Alexander Suzdalev, will participate in the camp. However, the complete list of players will be announced later.
Each day of the rookie camp will start with ice time for the goalies at 10:30 a.m. Then, practice will be from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The schedule will be the same for all four days of the camp.
The 2024-25 Washington Capitals training camp kicks off on September 19. The first day of camp will be Media Day. According to the Capitals website, all players, management, and coaches will be available to speak. The rest of the training camp schedule and roster will be announced later. All the on-ice training camp sessions will be open to the public and free of charge.
Before Caps Media Day, on September 18, Washington’s veterans will have their off-ice tests and physicals. Those activities will be closed to the media.

For the Capitals’ 50th Anniversary, the organization will hold a Kickoff Celebration at Capital One Arena on October 10. Then, an alumni game will be held at MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Friday, October 11 at 3:00 p.m. Lastly, Washington will open their regular season against the New Jersey Devils at Capital One Arena. The scheduled puck drop is 7:00 p.m.
