The Washington Capitals had a special surprise for their fans on Alex Ovechkin’s birthday (Happy Birthday to the Great Eight). The team unveiled their black Screaming Eagle jersey that incorporates the franchise’s first-ever third jersey, as well as the original rebrand. The colors used for the sweater are blue, black, and bronze. Additionally, the shoulder patches are the logo of the Capitol building in front of two crossing hockey sticks and a puck, along with two stars.
The team posted a video on Twitter/X of Alex Ovechkin opening up a gift box to reveal the Screaming Eagle jersey inside. The video can be watched here.
The Capitals will wear these jerseys for six home games during the 2024-25 season. Their debut will occur on Wednesday, November 6 against the Nashville Predators. The complete schedule for the Screaming Eagle games are below:

The Capitals described the important representation of the Screaming Eagle logo. They stated, “The screaming eagle preying in the downward design direction is meant to evoke an eagle’s energy, power, and speed, chosen for its symbolic status as the national bird of the United States.”
Also, the Capitals noted where fans can go get these jerseys. They said, “The jerseys will be available online at NHLShop.com, NHLShop.ca and shop.monumentalsportsnetwork.com, the MedStar Capitals Iceplex store, and the Capital One Arena Team Store beginning Thursday, Oct. 10. Fans attending the Oct. 10 50 Fest presented by TikTok at Capital One Arena are encouraged to visit the Capital One Arena Team Store to purchase the jersey.”
Next, the Capitals will hold training camp, starting with Media Day on Thursday, September 19. The team plays in their first preseason game on Sunday, September 22 at 3:00 P.M. against the Philadelphia Flyers.
