Capitals HC Sends Four-Word Message About Starting Goalie vs Canadiens

The Washington Capitals will open their 2025 first-round playoff series against the Montreal Canadiens later today. Washington enters the series with home-ice advantage and will be looking to take Game 1 in front of their loyal fans.

However, entering the game, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery wouldn't announce who was starting in goal. The coach offered a simple response to the question when asked, keeping his cards very close to his vest.

"You'll find out tonight," he said after practice regarding the starting goaltender.

It will either be goalie Logan Thompson or Charlie Lindgren in net for Washington. Thompson was off the ice first during the team's morning skate, which normally means he will end up taking the ice later.

However, it seems that Carbery wouldn't commit to either player at this time. This could either mean that he is truly undecided in his choice, or that he wants to keep an advantage for his team as long as possible.

Thompson has not played since April 2, which could be a factor in this lack of decision. But when he has been healthy, the goalie has been incredible for Washington.

Thompson went 31-6-6 with a .910 save percentage and 2.49 GAA across 43 games. In comparison, Lindgren played in 39 games, going 20-14-3 with a .896 save percentage and 2.73 GAA.

The Capitals have a good problem to have here, with two strong candidates to start Game 1. Washington is favored entering this series and will be looking to begin its quest toward winning another Stanley Cup with a win.
