RALEIGH, North Carolina: The Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed one of their most valuable depth players. Left-winger Eric Robinson, who signed with the organization on July 1, 2024, as a free agent, has signed a four-year extension. The deal has an average annual value (AAV) of $1.7 million USD.

For the first three years of the deal, Robinson has an eight-team No Move Clause (NMC). The NMC will still apply in the fourth year of the deal if he plays 75% of the team’s games and averages 12 minutes or higher time-on-ice (TOI).

Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky said in a statement, “It’s no surprise to us that Eric had his best professional season last year with Carolina. His size and speed make him an excellent fit for the way we want to play, and we are thrilled that he’s chosen to remain a Hurricane.”

In his first year as a Hurricane, Robinson possessed career highs in points (32), goals (14), assists (18), and plus-minus ratings (+14) in all 82 regular-season games; another career high. He was one of three Hurricanes to play all regular-season games, alongside Brent Burns and Sean Walker. In the postseason, Robinson registered three points (one goal, two assists).

Robinson told the media that the reason for these highs boiled down to one word – opportunity.

“I felt like I got a good chance here from the beginning. I got to play up and down the lineup. Probably confidence too. Once you have a good start, playing every night, it just builds”, said Robinson during his exit interview.

Prior to his time as a Hurricane, Robinson was a pillar of collegiate hockey at Princeton University, playing four seasons and captaining the team in 2017-2018. He signed a two-year entry-level deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2018 and remained a member of their roster until December 6, 2023, when he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a conditional seventh-round NHL draft pick in 2025. Robinson has played 388 career NHL games, with a point total of 123 (54 goals, 69 assists). In addition, he has played 68 career AHL games with the Cleveland Monsters, with a point total of 33 (16 goals, 17 assists). In 2021, Robinson won a bronze medal with Team USA at the IIHF World Championship, with three assists in ten games.
