Tuesday is a day of celebration for the Chicago Blackhawks. After the news regarding Connor Bedard’s captaincy broke on Tuesday morning, the following press conference was a way to celebrate the news.

During the press conference, GM Kyle Davidson and head coach Jeff Blashill were asked about the rest of the leadership group. Worth noting, three of Bedard’s teammates were in attendance. Oliver Moore, Patrick Kane, and Tyler Bertuzzi were all front row for Bedard’s presser. When Coach Blashill took the mic, it was Kane and Bertuzzi he named as alternates for the upcoming season.

Frankly, Bertuzzi and Kane are the correct selections. There is no doubt that names like Alex Vlasic and Frank Nazar are considered leaders in their own rights. However, two of the most decorated players on the roster are worthy of the alternate honors in Chicago.

At the end of last season, Bertuzzi was given an “A” after Jason Dickinson, Connor Murphy, and Nick Foligno were traded. Now, he’ll own that honor on a permanent basis with the Blackhawks.

In Patrick Kane’s final seasons with the Blackhawks, he too wore an “A” alongside Jonathan Toews. Now in his return, he will be looked upon to be a leader in the locker room once again.

Without Bedard on the ice early in the season, a third alternate captain will be named. Some possible names include the aforementioned Vlasic and Nazar, along with names like Teuvo Teravainen, Bowen Byram, and Ryan Donato. However, fans will know more on Sept. 29 when the Blackhawks open the season.
