Chris Kreider was expected to be traded this summer, and now, Elliotte Friedman confirms the return as the Rangers veteran heads to the Anaheim Ducks.
Over the course of his career, Chris Kreider has played in over 1,000 total combined games between the regular season and the Stanley Cup Playoffs with the New York Rangers, but after a poor 2024/25 campaign, the writing was on the wall for the veteran forward.
Then, talks began this week that the team were looking to make their second trade in the last 12 months with the Anaheim Ducks, as Kreider was reportedly going to follow his former captain Jacob Trouba to the West Coast.
That was of course, all upon approval from Kreider, who carries a no-trade clause, and on Thursday, it was confirmed that he had waived that clause to make the deal happen, with it now becoming official, according to Elliotte Friedman.
According to Friedman, the deal will officially be Kreider to the Ducks with prospect Carey Terrance and a mid-round pick heading back to the Rangers, with the longest-tenured Blue Shirt now officially on the way out.
Kreider will end his Rangers career with 883 regular season games played, tallying a solid 326 goals and 582 points in that time, and with him now gone, it could lead to the team trying to move Mika Zibanejad as well.
As for the Ducks, they get a solid, proven veteran that's a great net front presence for a team that's in need of major grit, and with the team ready to spend big in free agency, they could be a team to watch in the 2025/26 season in the Western Conference.
