College hockey has finally begun for Flames prospects

Friends, up until this past week, following the Calgary Flames’ prospects has been a pretty simple affair.

This week, college hockey began its regular season, and suddenly you need a series of charts and spreadsheets to keep up with the schedules. Roughly half of the Flames’ collegiate players started play this week. Next week they’ll be joined by the other half, along with the American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers.

Get ready for a fire hose of Flames prospect content that will probably last through until March. (They have that many prospects.)

Onto this week’s update!

Jacob Battaglia – LW, Kingston Frontenacs, OHL

19; Calgary’s second round pick (62nd overall) in the 2024 NHL Draft; 6’1″, 196 pounds; shoots left; FN’s 7th-ranked prospect 2025

It was a relatively quiet week for Battaglia. He had just one assist through two games, with Kingston winning both.

Trevor Hoskin – RW, Merrimack College Warriors, NCAA

21; Calgary’s fourth round pick (106th overall) in the 2024 NHL Draft; 6’1″, 175 pounds; shoots right

Hoskin’s first game with Merrimack College was a 4-0 loss to UMass Lowell.

Axel Hurtig – D, Calgary Hitmen, WHL

20; Calgary’s seventh round pick (208th overall) in the 2023 NHL Draft; 6’4″, 202 pounds; shoots left

Hurtig is day-to-day with an injury, per the Hitmen.

Hunter Laing – C/RW, Saskatoon Blades, WHL

19; Calgary’s sixth round pick (170th overall) in the 2024 NHL Draft; 6’5″, 205 pounds; shoots right

Laing had a really productive week. In three games, he had three goals and three assists.

Jakob Leander – D, HV71, U20 Nationell

18; Calgary’s seventh round pick (208th overall) in the 2025 NHL Draft; 6’4″, 196 pounds; shoots right

HV71 had a weird week, with just a single game on their schedule.

Yan Matveiko – C, Krasnaya Armiya Moskva, MHL

19; Calgary’s seventh round pick (211th overall) in the 2025 NHL Draft; 6’1″, 150 pounds; shoots left

Matveiko continues chugging along. He had four points over two games and remains one of the more productive scorers on one of Russian junior hockey’s best teams.

Henry Mews – D, University of Michigan Wolverines, NCAA

19; Calgary’s third round pick (74th overall) in the 2024 NHL Draft; 6’0″, 181 pounds; shoots right; FN’s 6th-ranked prospect 2025

Michigan played Mercyhurst twice and won by a combined score of 18-1. Mews had a strong weekend, but let’s wait to see how he, and Michigan, do against more potent opponents.

Luke Misa – LW/C, Penn State University Nittany Lions, NCAA

19; Calgary’s fifth round pick (150th overall) in the 2024 NHL Draft; 5’10”, 170 pounds; shoots left; FN’s 13th-ranked prospect 2025

Penn State was in the spotlight in a pair of nationally-televised games against Arizona State. Misa played well, but didn’t register any points in the pair of wins.

Mace’o Phillips – D, Green Bay Gamblers, USHL

18; Calgary’s third round pick (80th overall) in the 2025 NHL Draft; 6’6″, 228 pounds; shoots left

Phillips registered his first point with Green Bay this week.

Cullen Potter – C, Arizona State University Sun Devils, NCAA

18; Calgary’s first round pick (32nd overall) in the 2025 NHL Draft; 5’10”, 172 pounds; shoots left; FN’s 5th-ranked prospect 2025

Good news: Potter had a point per game as Arizona State clashed with Penn State.

Bad news: Penn State won both games.

Theo Stockselius – C, Djurgårdens IF, U20 Nationell/SHL

18; Calgary’s second round pick (54th overall) in the 2025 NHL Draft; 6’2″, 181 pounds; shoots left; FN’s 12th-ranked prospect 2025

Stockselius had his WHL rights traded from Seattle to Calgary, made his SHL debut and registered a couple points, including his first goal of the season. Not a bad week.

Ethan Wyttenbach – RW, Quinnipiac University Bobcats, NCAA

18; Calgary’s fifth round pick (144th overall) in the 2025 NHL Draft; 5’10”, 180 pounds; shoots right; FN’s 20th-ranked prospect 2025

Wyttenbach registered his first collegiate point off a heck of a pass.
