Connor McDavid's future has been a major talking point in Edmonton recently, and now insider John Shannon has revealed the concern within the Oilers organization.

Earlier this off-season, the expectation for Connor McDavid was that he was going to sign a new contract with the team at some point this off-season, but with training camp just a matter of days away, we've not seen any movement on that front.

Now, some NHL Insiders are suggesting that McDavid could start the new season without a deal beyond 2025/26, with optimism that something will eventually get done to keep him in Edmonton for a few more years.

McDavid uncertainty causing worry within the organization

For the most part, the expectation is that the relationship with CEO Jeff Jackson will lead to a deal getting done, but now, Insider John Shannon has revealed a level of worry within the organization if things continue the way they are.

I think there's people in the Oilers office holding their breath; Connor's in no hurry; he's going to go into the regular season without a new contract.

That doesn't mean that there's no chance a deal gets done, but right now the longer McDavid waits to begin negotiations, the more those in the front office worry about his potential future.

Ultimately, fans don't have a major reason to worry about McDavid's future as of right now, but if things drag on throughout the regular season and the team don't show the promise of a Stanley Cup contender like they have been in recent years, then panic may set in with the fans and the organization, but for now there's no reason to worry.
