Correct' match: don’t rule out Arber Xhekaj in the stands tonight

Tonight, the Habs play in Detroit. It’s the second game in two nights, and we know that Jakub Dobes will play. There will be 17 “back-to-back” sequences this season, and we can expect both goalies to play in those games. But what if there aren’t? Offensively, it’s unlikely that Joe Veleno will play. Nobody deserves to be taken out of the lineup, and I can’t see the Québécois playing on the heels of his return to Detroit.Imagine if the club had 14 forwards… the decisions would be even more controversial. But defensively, it’s not impossible to think that a change could happen. I’m not saying it’s likely, but it’s a possibility. On BPM Sports with the morning gang, Renaud Lavoie mentioned that Martin St-Louis thought Arber Xhekaj’s game was “okay” last night. That’s why the door is open. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEOxWOTz1QA

When you look at the use of the defensemen, you can see right away that St-Louis clearly had one defenseman who was used less than the other five. All the other guys, including his partner Alexandre Carrier, jumped on the ice more than 20 times and played between 17 and 23 minutes. But not Xhekaj. #11Minutes #14Presences

) The defenseman may have had a good training camp and be more mobile on the ice, but getting his coach to trust him won’t be easy this season. So the question arises: will Jayden Struble play tonight?

Against a team less robust than the Maple Leafs, we wonder if Martin St-Louis thinks that leaving Xhekaj in the stands (not to punish him, but to play Struble) is a good idea. The answer soon.
