Detroit Red Wings Power Play Analysis: Shocking Lineup Choices

Well, this certainly isn’t what I had in mind when I said Detroit’s power play needed a new look. I understand that 1 for 20 is downright terrible recently, but I certainly wouldn’t go as far as putting 2 rookies on the top unit. Let’s dive into the strangest news out of Detroit this week. Per Ansar Khan.

#RedWings changes to power play units that are 1 for 20 in past five games:
1. Finnie (net front), Larkin (bumper), Raymond-Danielson (flanks), Seider (point).
2. Rasmussen (net front), Kasper (bumper), DeBrincat-Kane (flanks), ASP (point).

Power play Unit 1:

Like, why? Don’t get me wrong, I love the youth movement, but again, why? You’ve removed your two best power play performers in DeBrincat and Kane in favour of Nate Danielson in his second game and a rookie Emmitt Finnie, who hasn’t scored in a while. If you wanted to put a rookie on power play 1, you’d think it would be the generational offensive defensemen you have on unit 2, but hey, who am I to judge?

Power play Unit 2:

Why is Rasmussen playing on the power play in 2025? Again, there really isn’t anything wrong with this, I just don’t know why you would take Kane and DeBrincat away from Larkin and Raymond. Especially if you’re going to put them with Rasmussen.
