Detroit Red Wings Re-Sign Albert Johansson

The Detroit Red Wings, earlier this afternoon, traded Vladimir Tarasenko to the Minnesota Wild to free up some salary cap space. They used some of that $4.75 million to re-sign defenseman Albert Johansson. The Red Wings re-signed Johansson to a two-year extension worth $2.25 million, which is a 1.125 million AAV. Johansson made his NHL debut last season, playing in 61 games. He recorded nine points on three goals and six assists. He was a -11 with two of his three games coming as game-winning goals. Johansson recorded his first point on November 25, 2024, and his first goal on January 10, 2025.

The Red Wings drafted Johansson with the 60th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He joined the Red Wings organization for the 2022-23 season, playing in 53 games with Grand Rapids of the AHL, recording 15 points on five goals and ten assists. Johansson was a minus-seven with 38 penalty minutes. In 2023-24 with Grand Rapids, he played in 66 games, recording 21 points on six goals and 15 assists. He was a plus-seven with 46 penalty minutes and one game-winning goal. In the Calder Cup Playoffs with Grand Rapids last season, he played in nine games, recording three assists. He had eight penalty minutes. Before joining the Griffins, he played in the SHL with Farjestad BK. In 52 games, he had 25 points on five goals and 20 assists. He was a minus-six and had 24 penalty minutes. In 19 playoff games that season, he had eight points on two goals and six assists. He was a minus-one and had eight penalty minutes.
