Fedorov played 13 seasons with Detroit from 1990 until 2003. The Russian star has his name all over the Red Wings’ record books. He notched 400 goals, 554 assists and 954 points in 908 games played for the Winged Wheel. The decorated star also supplied 117 power-play goals along with 309 power play points.
Fedorov reached at least 30 goals scored per season with the Red Wings in nine seasons. This included seven his first seven seasons in Hockeytown. He and Steve Yzerman are the only players in franchise history to log multiple 100-point seasons.
Fedorov is also a three-time Stanley Cup champion, but also has a number of individual awards. He also won two Frank Selke Trophies along with the Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award in the 1993-94 season. The Russian legend was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015 and the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2016.
He also spent time with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Columbus Blue Jackets and Washington Capitals. Fedorov is currently third all-time in goals, assists and points among Russian-born skaters behind Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin.
This is an honour that’s been way past due. However, it seems that the Red Wings will give the talented forward his moment in the sun. He was one of the linchpins of the Red Wings team that won multiple Stanley Cups in the 1990s and the 2000s.
Fedorov was excellent at both ends of the ice and was one of the leading lights for the influx of Russian players. It’s been a long time coming, but Fedorov will finally get to see his number 91 hoisted to the rafters.
