Dougie Hamilton is quickly becoming a major trade candidate this off-season, and now four intriguing teams are becoming potential landing spots for the veteran as the trade market heats up around the NHL in the off-season.
The New Jersey Devils have some talented young defenseman coming through the organization, and as a result, it appears as though a veteran like Dougie Hamilton is now becoming expendable for this talented team.
At 32-years of age, Hamilton put up a solid 40 point season in 2024/25, and while the Devils aren't intent on trading him, according to Frank Seravalli, they have begun exploring the trade market for him.
Now, the duo of Pierre McGuire and Jimmy Murphy have narrowed down the list of potential landing spots for the former first-round pick, naming Toronto, Dallas, Detroit and Utah as teams that could have significant interest in the veteran blue liner.
However, this is a Devils team that is expecting to make a Stanley Cup Playoffs run again next season, with Hamilton currently penciled in as a top pairing defenseman on the team, making a trade a possibility but not a guarantee at this point in time.
While Hamilton isn't the player that he once was, he's still a very talented two-way defenseman that can get it done on both ends of the ice, with 501 points scored thus far in 835 impressive NHL games between Boston, Calgary, Carolina and New Jersey.
Ultimately, it makes sense if the team want to trade him to get the younger names like Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec bigger roles in the organization, and if he is ready to be moved, expect several teams beyond these four to be interested in the veteran.
