It’s rare to see a series that goes only five games and features three different goaltenders; it’s even rarer when all three of the goalies played for the same teams, and that’s what we saw in the opening round with the Allen Americans.
Brett Mirwald was a big part of Allen’s success down the stretch, posting a 5-0-1 record with a 1.58 GAA, .950SV%, and two shutouts in seven games after spending the last two seasons in USports. He would get off to a solid start, allowing just three goals in the first two games of the series. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native would struggle in Games 3 and 4, getting the hook in both games. With Jackson Parkson back from the Belleville Senators, it will be interesting to see if Mirwald has played his last game in the 2026 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Marco Costantini played in the last three games for the Allen Americans and won both of his starts in Games 4 and 5. The 23-year-old led Allen this year with a 2.83 GAA, .917SV%, and two shutouts in 33 games during the regular season. He will likely split the cage with Jackson Parsons for the remainder of the playoffs.
Jackson Parsons returned to Allen and would pick up the win in Game 3, stopping all 25 shots he faced in 44:06 as he came in after the first period in relief of Mirwald. It was Parsons’ first appearance with Allen since March 29th, as he was up with the Belleville Senators. The Embrun, Ontario, native had an 11-9-1 record with a 2.41 GAA, .923 SV%, and a shutout in 22 games with Allen.
In the playoffs, you need your best players to come through, and that’s exactly what happened as Dany Katic and Sam Sedley led the way in the opening round. Katic had 38 goals and 32 assists for 70 points in 62 games during the regular season. He also led the league with 38 goals and was named to the ECHL First All-Star Team. Katic continued his success in the opening round, putting up five goals and five assists for 10 points, including a hat-trick in Game 5 vs Idaho. He had two goals and eight assists for 10 points in 12 games during the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs with the Norfolk Admirals.
Sedley, 22, had eight goals and 47 assists for 55 points in 66 games this season. He would finish tied for first among Allen’s defensemen in goals and first in assists. In the 2026 Kelly Cup Playoffs, he has a goal and five assists for six points in five games. The St.Mary’s, Ontario native had a goal and two assists for three points in four games during the 2025 Kelly Cup Playoffs with the Reading Royals.
