Worcester Railers defenseman Case McCarthy is heading overseas to Norway to join the Stavanger Oilers after spending his first three seasons in North America. McCarthy, 25, had four goals and six assists for 10 points in 18 games last year with the Railers. He had one assist in nine AHL games with the Hartford Wolf Pack. The Troy, NY, native spent two seasons in the ECHL where he had six goals and 11 assists for 17 points in 37 games with the Bloomington Bison and Worcester Railers. In 27 games with the Wolf Pack, he put up two assists. McCarthy is the second member of the Railers to take the overseas route joining Xavier Alexandre Jean Louis.
Prior to going pro, the fourth-round pick of the New Jersey Devils spent two seasons with the United States Development Program. In 2018 he won a Gold Medal at the U17 World Hockey Championships and the following year, he won a bronze medal at the U18 World Junior Championships. McCarthy would then head to the NCAA where he had 15 goals and 37 assists for 52 points in 144 games at Boston University. In 2023, the Terriers won Hockey East while McCarthy wore an “A” with them, the following season, he would be named captain of the Terriers.
