Trois-Rivières Lions forward Logan Nijhoff is heading overseas to Slovakia to HC Slovan Bratislava after spending his first five professional seasons in North America. Nijhoff, 24, has three goals and four assists for seven points in 16 games. He missed a big chunk of the season after suffering an eye injury on opening night. This is yet another blow for the Lions, who have already lost Wyatt McLeod, Joël Teasdale, Tommy Cormier, Tyler Hylland, and Andrew Coxhead.
The Comox, British Columbia, native has spent four of his five seasons in the ECHL, making stops with the Tulsa Oilers, Indy Fuel, and Trois-Rivières Lions. In 117 ECHL games, he has 36 goals and 36 assists for 72 points. He’s added three goals and nine assists for 12 points in 22 Kelly Cup Playoff games, and won a Kelly Cup Championship with the Lions last season. Nijhoff has also spent parts of three seasons in the AHL with the San Diego Gulls and Rockford Icehogs. During his time in the AHL, he’s put up four goals and an assist for five points in 58 games.
Prior to going pro, Nijhoff spent parts of five seasons in the WHL with the Regina Pats. During his time with the Pats, he put up 61 goals and 62 assists for 123 points in 231 games while also playing in three WHL playoff games. In three of those seasons, he wore a letter, including his last two as the team’s captain.
