Hockey is nearly upon us. After a long summer, the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames’ prospects are set to play each other next week. The two teams will face off in Edmonton on Friday, September 12th at seven PM local time. They will then head down the QEII to play in Calgary on Sunday, September 14th at four pm at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Who to watch for the Edmonton Oilers

The team has announced that their top two prospects will feature in this series. Both Issac “Ike” Howard and Matthew Savoie are expected to feature, and feature prominently. With expectations sky high and spots in the top six up for grabs, the two prospects will be out showing the coaching staff that they deserve to suit up next to Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid.

Beyond them, defenceman Beau Akey and forward Quinn Hutson are players to watch for sure. Both are highly touted picks that are expected to develop into NHLers in a few years. The other player to watch is the big-bodied Connor Clattenburg, who has made a name for himself as a hard-nosed winger. Expect him to be right in the thick of things the entire series and to be getting the Flames players a bit banged up along the boards.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow, September 4th, and will be available for a flat rate of $20 in Edmonton.

The Oilers will play the Flames in their first official preseason game on September 21st at six PM at Rogers Place, with both teams facing off in the season opener in Edmonton on October 8th.
