The Oilers clearly need to shake things up in net, and the latest mock trade from Heavy Sports sees them do just that as they acquire a Cup winning goalie.
The 2024/25 season was almost a historic one for the Edmonton Oilers, but once again, goaltending held them back as they fell at the final hurdle in their pursuit of a Stanley Cup.
This off-season, they've been intent on making some big changes, but to this point, they've left the duo of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard untouched as GM Stan Bowman and the team seem content on running things back.
There's been many goaltenders linked to the Oilers, and one that has come up consistently is Jordan Binnington, and now, Heavy Sports have put together a mock trade that would finally see the team land the Stanley Cup Champion.
Oilers get:
Jordan Binnington, G
2026 fifth-round pickBlues get:
Stuart Skinner, G
Isaac Howard, F
2027 first-round pick
2028 second-round pick
In this deal, the Oilers are giving up their recently acquired new top line winger along with two significant draft picks and Skinner to get the deal done, which does seem to be a significant overpay for the team.
On paper, this one seems like a no-brainer for the Blues, who could turn to the duo of Joel Hofer and Skinner to lead them forward with yet another bring young talent in Howard arriving in the deal as well, and while the Oilers want a change in net, it's fair to say that they may not want to make this deal.
Ultimately though, there are goaltenders available out there, and if the right one comes up, don't be surprised to see the Oilers pull the trigger as they aim to complete their chase for glory.
