The Edmonton Oilers have signed former Calgary Flames forward Andrew Mangiapane to a two-year contract, with an annual cap hit of $3.6M.
Mangiapane is a smaller winger with an insane motor who works his butt off every single time he steps onto the ice. He grinds in the corners and digs pucks out along the boards, but also blends in a nice complement of skill and scoring to be a very effective middle-six winger.
His best season came in 2021–22 when he scored a whopping 35 goals and 55 points for the Flames while playing primarily on a shutdown line and getting served the toughest defensive matchups on a nightly basis. He had a bit of a down year with the Washington Capitals in 2024-25, but was quite productive for a mediocre Flames team his whole career.
Mangiapane will be a fantastic addition to Leon Draisaitl’s wing. His mix of grit and skill will be a perfect match for Draisaitl, and this duo could be an absolute monster at both ends of the ice.
This is the exact type of signing the Oilers needed to make today.
Adding a player whose name means “eat bread” is icing on the cake.
Welcome to the right side of Alberta, Mang!
