Viktor Arvidsson was a solid piece for the Edmonton Oilers last season, but now, they've cleared up some cap space by moving the veteran winger in a surprise deal.
The Edmonton Oilers fell just short again in 2025 despite a fantastic Stanley Cup Playoffs run, and with free agency approaching, they're set to clear some salary cap space.
After that disappointment, the rumour mill was in overdrive, and on Monday, rumours quickly spread that the team are looking to move on from two veterans in Viktor Arvidsson and Adam Henrique.
The team already traded Evander Kane, and now, the team have moved on from the 32-year old Arvidsson after just one year with the team, trading him to the Boston Bruins, likely to dump some salary for a big off-season.
This shouldn't come as much of a surprise despite Arvidsson signing with the team in free agency a year ago, and with one-year left and a $4 million salary cap hit, this gives the Oilers flexibility as they look to move forward and finally get over the hump.
In 2024/25, Arvidsson was fairly productive for Edmonton, tallying 15 goals and 27 points in 67 games despite shifting up and down their lineup throughout the year, and with plenty left in his legs, he should still be able to remain very productive moving forward, with 600+ games under his belt at the NHL level.
Only time will tell whether or not this was a good move for Edmonton, as they're a team looking to clear some salary cap space for a potentially massive signing, and if they can get that done, this move will look stellar.
That's not the end of Stan Bowman's work however, as he's got plenty to work with and some key changes to make for the lineup moving forward, but for now, it's a great start for the Oilers.
