Has Ben Bishop stepped away from his player development role with the Dallas Stars?

One of the most respected names in recent Dallas Stars history may have quietly moved on from his role within the organization.

According to the official Dallas Stars website, former goaltender Ben Bishop is no longer listed as the team's player development coordinator, a position he had held since his NHL contract ended in 2023.

The Stars have yet to make a formal announcement, but the change suggests Bishop is taking the next step in life after hockey.

Ben Bishop's impact on the Dallas Stars as player and mentor

Bishop's playing career in Dallas was filled with memorable moments. In the 2019 playoffs, he led the team to a second-round Game 7 against the St. Louis Blues, making 52 saves in a performance still remembered by fans.

His time on the ice, however, was cut short by injuries. As NHL.com chronicled, Bishop's one-game return during the 2020 COVID bubble run made it clear he wasn't fully healthy, leading to his eventual retirement.

Recognizing his value beyond the crease, the Stars brought him into the front office as player development coordinator. He traveled to watch prospects, offered insight to young goaltenders, and stayed connected with teammates he had battled alongside.

"He was a steadying presence not just on the ice, but in the locker room and in the development pipeline,"
one Stars staff member said, as reported by The Dallas Morning News.

At 38 years old, Bishop still has many professional years ahead of him-whether in hockey or a new field.

If his departure is confirmed, it marks the end of another chapter in his connection to Dallas, but his influence on the Stars' modern era remains undeniable.

I believe his leadership, both as a player and mentor, will be missed in the organization.
