Five potential landing spots for Chris Kreider

The Bruins could also use another winger capable of scoring around the crease. Kreider has built his career by using his size, speed and ability to redirect pucks in front of the net. Those qualities would fit Boston’s traditional identity and give the club another power-play option.

Buffalo Sabres

After finally ending their 14-year playoff drought, the Sabres should be interested in adding more experience to their young roster. Kreider would bring 135 games of playoff experience and has produced 50 goals in those appearances.

Buffalo lost Alex Tuch this offseason without adding a comparable veteran forward. Kreider would not completely replace Tuch, but he could restore some of the size, leadership and net-front scoring that left with him. The Sabres finished among the Eastern Conference’s best teams last season, making them a legitimate destination rather than another rebuilding stop.

Carolina Hurricanes

If winning another Stanley Cup is Kreider’s priority, Carolina should be near the top of his list. The Hurricanes won the 2026 championship after finishing first in the Metropolitan Division, establishing themselves as one of the NHL’s strongest teams.

Kreider’s forechecking, straight-line speed and willingness to attack the net would work well in Rod Brind’Amour’s system. With Seth Jarvis expected to miss the beginning of the season following shoulder surgery, Kreider could also provide valuable early-season depth.

Philadelphia Flyers

Philadelphia offers proximity to the New York and Connecticut area while giving Kreider an opportunity to play an important role.

The Flyers could especially benefit from his power-play ability. Kreider has averaged approximately 10.5 power-play goals per 82 games over his career and led the NHL with 26 in 2021-22. Philadelphia’s power play finished 30th at 15 percent in 2024-25, an area identified as one of the club’s biggest weaknesses. He could also mentor promising power forward Porter Martone.

Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings need an experienced forward who can help push them back into the playoffs. Detroit remained in the Eastern Conference race until the final week last season but ultimately extended its postseason drought. The Red Wings were only three points outside a playoff position with four games remaining.

Kreider would give them another dependable goal-scoring winger, improve their net-front presence and bring leadership to a team facing uncertainty around its core. Detroit is not geographically on the East Coast, but it would move Kreider much closer to home while offering him a meaningful role on a team trying to take the next step.

Kreider may no longer be a 50-goal threat, but a 22-goal, 50-point veteran with his playoff résumé should attract plenty of interest. Reuters reported that he has 348 goals and 632 points in 958 career games, making him one of the most accomplished players available this close to training camp.
